<description>A survey of readers was carried out between Monday 18 th March and Sunday 24 th March 2013 in order to find out how satisfied readers are with the library's collections and information services. The original two-page survey form created in 2003 was used, as it has been every year since, to ensure consistent quality measurements. Posters advertising the survey were put up throughout the library for the whole of the survey week and survey forms were continually available at the library entrance, on the Issue and Enquiry Desk and on the IALS website. <description>The Sir William Dale Centre for Legislative Studies, IALS had a strong presence at the biennial Commonwealth Association for Legislative Counsel Conference in Cape Town in early April 2013. 

Professor Helen Xanthaki was a keynote speaker at the International Association for Legislation pre-conference workshop. Professor Xanthaki promoted the use of effectiveness as a criterion of legislative quality, indeed one that crosses the civil v common law barrier. Professor Xanthaki drew the similarities of legislative drafting processes and techniques in the common and Civil law jurisdictions in Europe, and supported the universality of legislative drafting principles. Eamonn Moran discussed Professor Xanthaki's paper.

He is Convenor of the Libraries Sub-Committee of the Society of Legal Scholars, a member of the Board of Trustees of the British and Irish Legal Information Institute, a visiting Associate Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University in Ghana, a Board member of the Ghana Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, and a former member of the Board of LLMC Digital (the online platform of the non-profit Law Library Microform Consortium).
