The Working Group on Financial Regulations, chaired by Mr. George Staple QC of Clifford Chance, was set up under the auspices of the Society for Advanced Legal Studies in April 1998. The first mandate that it undertook was to consider the legal, practical and evidential problems that arise when proceedings are initiated at different levels within the legal and regulatory structure of a single jurisdiction and in different jurisdictions in regard to the same or related matters. In December 1999 the Working Group published its finding in the Report on Parallel Proceedings. George Staple gave a lecture based on this report at the Society on June 15th, chaired by another member of the Working Group, Mr. William Blair QC. The Lord Chancellor's Department has forwarded the Report to the Law Commission for review.
