On December 13th 2001, the Society launched a Working Group on the Legal Implications of the Interdiction of Terrorist Property under the overall Chairmanship of Ross Cranston QC MP, the former Solicitor General.

The Group will be focusing on the following issues: a critical review of terrorist-related legislation and the monitoring of new legislation, especially the impact of overseas legislation; the impact of the initiatives against terrorist property on banks and financial institutions, i.e. compliance issues; the Human Rights aspects of the initiatives; the implications of investigations and enforcement, i.e. international cooperation aspects and the impact of the initiatives on other areas of the law, for example the civil law, restitutions and implications in regard to confidentiality.

The five subgroups are being chaired respectively by: Sir Ivan Lawrence QC, Richard Jones QC, Geoffrey Bindman, Detective Superintendent Nicholas O'Brien and The Hon Judge Faber. A report was published in July 2002.
