Dr Maria Mousmouti, Lecturer at the Institute of Advanced Legislative Studies participated in the 2019 International Conference organised by the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel (CALC). The conference was held in Livingstone, Zambia from the 1st to 3rd April 2019 and dealt with the topic Change and continuity in legislative drafting. It addressed a number of topics of concern to legislative counsel worldwide, including the use of disruptive technologies and computer language in legislation, teaching legislative drafting, legislative issues associated with Brexit, interpretation, access to legislation, drafting of delegated legislation, drafting techniques and styles and interaction with the courts.
Dr Mousmouti contributed with a presentation on ‘Teaching legislative drafting at the intersection of theory, creativity and practice’ that highlighted the educational approach followed in the Professional Course in Legislative Drafting and the LLM in Drafting Legislation, Regulation and Policy run by the IALS. The conference was attended by more than 120 professional legislative drafters from across the Commonwealth.
