IALS is pleased to announce that Dr Colin King has joined the Institute as Reader in Law from 1 October 2019. Colin arrives from the School of Law, University of Sussex, where he co-founded the Sussex Crime Research Centre. Prior to joining Sussex in 2015, Dr King taught at the Universities of Manchester and Leeds. He received his LLB in Law and European Studies, as well as his PhD, from the University of Limerick. Colin has recently published two books, The Handbook of Criminal and Terrorism Financing Law (2018) and Negotiated Justice and Corporate Crime: The Legitimacy of Civil Recovery and Deferred Prosecution Agreements (2018). His comparative analysis of civil recovery in Ireland and the UK, will be published by Oxford University Press. Colin is also working on a British Academy funded project entitled ‘Corruption, Dirty Capital, and the London Property Market’ and an AHRC Leadership Fellowship for empirical research on civil recovery law and practice. Colin will become Director of Postgraduate Research Students upon joining IALS. According to Professor Carl Stychin, Director of the Institute, ‘Colin is an excellent appointment, combining research excellence with a strong commitment to high quality education and training.
