The working group made important contributions on a number of fronts under the chairmanship of the Lord Justice Keene. Its report on planning obligations was discussed at a seminar at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors before a distinguished audience of lawyers, surveyors, planners, civil servants and academics. A report on the protection of sites of special scientific interest was also published. The group has contributed to Government initiatives by providing two members for the advisory group reviewing compulsory purchase and compensation and contributing by meetings and papers to the review of major infrastructure approval. Additional work involved proposals for the simplification of the planning system.

The results of the working group's continued investigation of proposals for the simplification of the planning system, suggesting proposals for law reform relating to new town and village greens aiming to reduce difficulties and lack of certainty surrounding the law and application of antiquated land use control in contemporary society.
