Brexit and financial services law and regulation

Speaker: Charles Morris, Senior Associate, Clifford Chance LLP

Synopsis

The lecture will deal with the anticipated Brexit impact on UK and EU laws and regulations relevant to the financial services industry. The focus will not be on politics, expected outcome or progress of political processes.

The topic will be of interest to students, and others from outside the financial services industry and regulatory community, who want to understand the technical impact of Brexit on financial services. A lot of the relevant concepts, like passporting, are mentioned frequently in the media, but not necessarily explained from a technical perspective. This will be tackled from the angle of practical impacts and related issues, such as the effect of onshoring legislation, temporary permissions and associated legal/regulatory issues and consequences.
