Title: Unexpressed Potential Of European Competition Network Regarding Consumer Protection From Illicit Commercial Practices

Speaker: Valentina Barela, Associate Professor of Comparative Law, Department of Legal Sciences - Law school , University of Salerno

Firstly, the seminar will cover  the power of the European Competition Network with reference to the “allocation regime of information”, then I will outline the need to increase the cooperation between the Competition Authorities in Europe and the European Commission, especially referring to the new generation of trade characterized by complex commercial dynamics. My attention will be focused also on the lack of clear accountability of choices among Authorities during their cooperation.  The second part of the seminar will report on Multilevel marketing (MLM) which is a direct selling method whereby consumers are actively involved in the system, becoming distributors shortly after of the same goods or services purchased. My explanation of the MLM system will be the opportunity to take into account how National Competition Authorities operate or should cooperate in this specific sort of trade, while being more sensitive to consumer policy, thanks also to comparative reference to the US experience.

This seminar is free but advance booking is required.
