Most of the trainees staying in London applied to do their MA at either UCL or City University. City made their decisions based on the application form and UCL interviewed all of the trainees who applied to them.
The UCL Interview - extracts from the trainee blog
Holly: "The interviewers seemed most interested to hear about my experience and what area of librarianship I hoped to go into rather than current awareness…"
Katie: "I was interviewed by Vanda Broughton and Lucy Gildersleeve; they were both very friendly ...We started off by talking about my role and responsibilities at the Institute of Classical Studies Library; this then lead on to my previous experience working in a bookshop and in several libraries. ... We then talked about my thoughts regarding the options I might take if I got a place on the course. They were also quite keen to talk about funding possibilities... Throughout the interview I was encouraged by their honesty and openness... Overall, a very positive experience, no matter what the outcome is."
Sheena: "It was very relaxed. ... The first question was about my voluntary work, especially at Kew Gardens where I am a volunteer guide and I used to run the guides library. I was asked why I wanted to be a librarian, my current responsibilities, what I thought I would like to do after university and the options I was thinking of taking. Finally I was asked if I was a member of CILIP. I don't know if the last question arose out of something I had said earlier. There were no questions about current trends in library science or anything similar!"
