The Official Journal C Series database is part of the Justis.com online service. It consists of the full text of the European Union's Official Journal: Information and Notices (the C series) from 1990 to date.
The database is available onsite at IALS to all members of the Library. Remote access is available for IALS staff, fellows and students, other academic members of the Library and academic members of Senate House Library (see Offsite Access to IALS Electronic Resources) .
When logging in, you will come to a Justis Sign In screen saying "You have been automatically authenticated". There is no need to enter an ID and password here - just click on the Continue button.
The database starts from 1990. A wide variety of EU official documents are included, such as:
The Justis home page offers a Quick search facility which searches across all the Justis databases to which IALS subscribes, not just the OJ C. It is best used to search for a specific document. Suggestions and tips are available on this screen.
For a detailed search template, click on EU. The default is to search all EU sources; to restrict your search to the OJ C, deselect Celex and OJ Daily. It is also advisable to use the OJ C drop-down menu to select either EP Minutes (European Parliament minutes) or Main (everything else). Search boxes can be added or removed by clicking on Add / Remove Fields. For search tips, click on the i buttons.
You can browse the OJ C by year and document title. Click on the Index and Contents button towards the top right-hand side of the screen, then use the + signs to open the list by year. Tick the year you require, then click on Show Results at the top of the screen. Filter Results Profiles (top-right) can then be used to narrow down the results.
On the Results screen, you can scroll through a brief display of all the results, or choose particular documents to display in full.
The results list can be sorted by clicking on any of the column headings, e.g. Title and Subject or Year.
The search can be narrowed down further by entering additional search terms in the Filter Results Profiles box on the Results screen. To return to the original search screen to amend your strategy, click on the Search tab.
Documents can be selected for printing, e-mailing and downloading using the check boxes on the Results screen.
For full information about the OJ C database, open the OJ C drop-down menu on the EU screen, then click on the ? links. Tutorials, details of technical requirements and other guidance are available from any point in the database via the Help and Information link (top-right). The EU screen has i buttons which give more information about a particular field, with search examples.
