Copying and Printing

Self-service photocopiers, scanners and printers are available on the 4th floor of the Library and in the Reading Room on floor L2. Payment is controlled through the IALS Pharos copy payment account system. You login to your IALS Pharos account to add credit or make copies or take scans by using details from your current IALS Library card. This system will also operate the IALS printers. Most of the photocopiers are loaded with A4 size paper and one with B4 paper. Back-to-back duplex, reduction and enlargement options are available.

5p is charged for each page printed or copied or scanned to USB.

Creating an IALS Pharos copy payment account

We will create an IALS Pharos copy payment account for you along with your plastic IALS Library card, after you apply for full membership of the IALS Library.

If you have a paper provisional card or a paper temporary card for short term use of IALS Library you can self-create an IALS Pharos copy payment account at the Kiosk in the copier room on the 4th floor or by asking at the Library Enquiry Desk.

If your copying is for a commercial purpose you may also need to purchase a licence under the CLA's Library Licence scheme at the Issue & Enquiry desk in order to validate the copies. For further information please see the Copyright Awareness page.

Please change this to a secure PIN of your own choice by using the Kiosk machine in the copier room (402) on the 4th floor. Swipe your IALS Library card barcode at the Kiosk and follow the on-screen instruction for "change your PIN". The PIN will need to be at least 4 numbers long.

Adding credit to your account

You can add credit to your account at any time when the Library is open, using the Kiosk machine in the copier room (402) on the 4th floor.

The Kiosk takes £1 and £2 coins and £10 and £20 notes only. It does not give change, and does not give receipts. If you want a receipt, please always pay at the Library Enquiry Desk where staff can add credit to your account.

The maximum amount of credit an account can hold is set at £50. The maximum amount for a single top-up is £20.

Please note that we are not able to give any refunds on unused credit when your IALS Library card expires. Please do ensure that you use up all your credit beforehand.

If your copying is for a commercial purpose you may also need to purchase a licence under the CLA's Library Licence scheme at the Issue & Enquiry desk in order to validate the copies. For further information please see the Copyright Awareness page.
