Hart ebook collection

Access

Available onsite to all IALS Library academic members. Offsite access is available to IALS staff, fellows and students, SAS staff, fellows and students (other than IALS), University of London law staff and postgraduate students, IALS Library academic members.

Content 

IALS subscribes to the 2017, 2018 and 2019 e-book collections from Hart Publishing, which is a part of Bloomsbury Publishing. All e-books in this collection are also individually listed on the library catalogue. 

Browsing 

Entering the site from the Electronic Law Library will take you to a page showing all of the law e-books; this will include e-books outside of the IALS subscription. To see only those e-books available in the IALS subscription, open the ‘Access’ menu underneath ‘Refine Results by’, and select the option for ‘Purchased/Open Access’. It is then possible to further refine the list by law subject area, date or series.    

Searching 

Entering the collection from the Electronic Law Library will take you to a page showing all of the law e-books; this will include e-books outside of the IALS subscription. To see only those e-books available in the IALS subscription, open the ‘Access’ menu underneath ‘Refine Results by’, and select the option for ‘Purchased/Open Access’. From this page use the basic search bar to search across the IALS subscription. Once you have selected the title of a book, there is an option to search within the book itself. 

Advanced search options are available. Run the advanced search and from the results screen choose the option for ‘Purchased/Open Access’, found under ‘Access’ in the ‘Refine Results by’ menu. The advanced search allows users to search in the following fields: author/editor, book title, chapter title, series title, DOI, ISBN. The advanced search also give the option to search by publication dates, subject, or collection. The collections that IALS subscribes to are called Hart Publishing 2017, Hart Publishing 2018 and Hart Publishing 2019. 

Printing, downloading and emailing

Each book is available in HTML and as page image PDFs for printing or offline reading. Entire chapters can be downloaded  or printed.
