Content

IALS Library's subscription to JustisOne covers UK legislation, UK judgments, Caribbean judgments and several leading series of law reports:  International Law Reports, Irish Reports, Irish Digest, Session Cases, Jersey Law Reports, Bermuda Law Reports,  Cayman Islands Law Reports and Singapore Law Reports.  A sophisticated case citator is also available.

UK Acts

  • Public and general acts from 1235 onwards, as originally passed; includes Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland acts and measures. Lists of amending instruments are also available.
  • Local acts from 1797 onwards.
  • UK Statutory Instruments (SIs) from 1949 onwards, as originally made, plus those earlier instruments that were still in force at the end of 1948. Includes Northern Ireland Orders, Scottish Statutory Instruments (SSIs) and Welsh Statutory Instruments.

United Kingdom Judgments

A very large collection of transcripts, with a detailed case citator. Covers the House of Lords / Supreme Court, 1852 onwards; Privy Council,  1999 onwards; Court of Appeal (Civil Division), 1951 onwards; Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) 1963 onwards; High Court, 1996 onwards. 

Formal law reports are available via links from JustisOne to Westlaw, Lexis, et cetera: when viewing a judgment on Justis, click on ‘Citations and sources’ and follow the links. Please note, however, that offsite access to IALS Library’s Westlaw and Lexis subscriptions is restricted to IALS staff, fellows and students.

Caribbean Judgments

This JustisOne collection consists of cases from the Caribbean Court of Justice, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Christopher & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turks &Caicos. Consists mostly of transcripts, but also includes the Cayman Islands Law Reports and the Bermuda Law Reports.

International Law Reports 

The entire International Law Reports (ILR) series is available, consisting of cases from 1919 onwards. A Cambridge University Press title, ILR publishes decisions of international courts and tribunals and the decisions of municipal courts in matters of international law.

Irish Reports and Digests

This collection consists of the Irish Reports, the leading law report for Ireland, and the Irish Digest. It covers cases from 1808 onwards. Both series are published by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for Ireland.  

Session Cases

Session Cases, produced by the Scottish Council of Law Reporting, is the most authoritative Scottish law report. It contains cases from 1817 onwards.

Jersey Law Reports

Jersey Law Reports publishes cases from Jersey (a self-governing dependency of the British Crown), 1969 onwards.

Bermuda Law Reports

The official law reports of Bermuda, including judgments of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, 1986 onwards.  This title may be searched separately, but it is also included in JustisOne’s Caribbean Judgments collection.

Cayman Islands Law Reports

The official law reports for the Cayman Islands, including judgments of the Grand Court and Court of Appeal.  This title may be searched separately, but it is also included in JustisOne’s Carribbean Judgments collection.

Singapore Law Reports (Reissue)

The Singapore Law Reports: Reissue covers all cases of legal significance from the higher courts of Singapore, 1965 onwards. 

Access

JustisOne is available onsite at IALS to all members of IALS Library. Remote access is restricted to academic members of IALS Library and Senate House Library (see Offsite Access to IALS Electronic Resources).

Searching

To select a specific jurisdiction - for example, Jamaica - use the Settings option (bottom left).

On the Advanced Search page, select a desired collection or law report from the menu. Search by title/party name, year, subject (called ‘Category’ on JustisOne) and/or other criteria. 

A basic search facility is also available, via the Search button in the top left-hand corner. 

Boolean connectors can be used, for example:

  • marine and insurance
  • solicitors or barristers
  • taxation not income

Browsing

Cases on JustisOne may be browsed by subject, but not by other criteria, using the Browse button. Select a subject, then click on Find Cases.

Viewing results

Search results can be sorted by relevance, date, title/parties or court. 
Click ‘All Results; at the top of the hit list to show cases only or legislation only.

Printing, emailing and downloading

When viewing a document, a Download button is available.  
To print, click on the double arrow button (>>)  just above the document, then select Print; alternatively, select Read Mode, then click on the printer icon.
