Many congratulations to IALS Librarian and Associate Director, Jules Winterton, who will be awarded the Joseph L Andrews Bibliographical Award in 2012 by the American Association of Law Libraries.  Jules will receive the award jointly with Professor Richard Danner, Library Director at Duke Law School, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, for the book which they co-edited and which was published in 2011, The IALL International Handbook of Legal Information Management .

The Joseph L Andrews Bibliographical Award is made annually by the American Association of Law Libraries for a new publication to recognise its significant contribution to legal bibliographical literature. The major awards will be presented at the 2012 Annual Meeting in Boston.

  • Olympic Games in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012

The IALS Library intends to open for its normal hours during July and August, but please note that there will be travel disruption throughout London before and during the Olympic Games.  Russell Square has been designated as the Games Media Transport Hub, which will cause additional local transport disruption in the Bloomsbury area.  Please check the IALS website in advance of your visit to find out if any IALS services are at risk, and please allow extra time to travel within London during July and August!

  • IALS building refurbishment - Summer 2012

We are very pleased to announce that a programme of planned refurbishment work will be taking place at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies from June to September 2012. The work this year is the first phase in a major programme of modernisation, scheduled over several years, which will upgrade the building infrastructure at 17 Russell Square and include improvements to our working environment such as the heating system and cooling facilties as well as upgrades to the public spaces, events rooms and areas of our Library. This year the improvement work will be concentrated on floor L1 and on the Ground floor and includes important development of the entrance area and expansion of the Institute's own café, Café Lex.

IALS and IALS Global Law Library will be open as usual throughout this period, except for our annual late September closed weeks.
