Terms and Conditions for 6-month free trial

  1. The Special Offer ("Offer") is available from September 9th 2013 until March 31st 2015. However the closing date may be changed - brought forward or delayed - at any time without further notice.
  2. Applications for the initial "6 months free membership" must be made using the "Special Offer Application Form 1"
  3. We reserve the right to decline application forms received after the end of the Offer availability period.
  4. The Offer is available to new subscribers only.
  5. The Offer is not available to existing subscribers whose membership is still current or due for renewal at any time during the Offer availability period.
  6. The Offer is not available to former subscribers whose membership lapsed, expired, or was otherwise not renewed within 12 months of the start of the Offer availability period.
  7. The Offer is intended for law firms, barristers' chambers, commercial organisations, government departments, non-governmental organisations and charities.
  8. Subscribers will be notified by post or email (at our discretion) before the end of the initial "6 months free membership" period and invited to apply for 12 months membership at a discount to normal membership rates in force at that time.
  9. Applications for the "12 months membership at a discount" must be made using the "Special Offer Renewal Form 2
  10. Applications for the "12 months membership at a discount" will only be available to members who subscribed to the initial "6 months free membership".
  11. Subject to 12. below: Where application forms for the "12 months membership at a discount" are received after the end of the initial "6 months free membership" period, and are accepted, the membership period will continue seamlessly from the end of the initial "6 months free membership" period.
  12. We reserve the right to decline application forms for the "12 months membership at a discount" received after the end of the initial "6 months free membership" period.
  13. Subscribers will be notified by post or email (at our discretion) before the end of the "12 months membership at a discount" and invited to renew their membership at standard membership rates in force at that time.
  14. We reserve the right to decline applications at our discretion.

Terms and Conditions for service

  1. Members of the subscribing organization undertake to abide by the Regulations made by the Advisory Council of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. A copy of the current regulations may also be obtained from the Library Administrative Officer or may be consulted at the Library Enquiry Desk.
  2. The Institute is not permitted to send items electronically to organisations who do not have a CLA Law License or CLA Multinational Law License, unless a judicial proceedings form or non-commercial purposes form is submitted with each order. Organisations who do not have a CLA Law License, or a CLA Multinational Law License, and who have not submitted a judicial proceedings or non-commercial purposes form can receive items either by fax, post, courier or can collect at IALS. Courier services are only available locally and IALS reserves the right to refuse to courier items.
  3. Where the Institute supplies copied material in printed form under licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency Limited, the document may not be recopied, saved electronically, or resold - as indicated in the following statement from the CLA: "the contents of this document are copyright works and, unless you have the permission of the copyright owner or of the Copyright Licensing Agency Ltd and save as may be permitted by statute, may not be copied (including storage in any electronic medium) or otherwise reproduced (even for internal purposes) or resold" (CLA Document Delivery License).
  4. Where the Institute supplies copied material by electronic distrubution (Secure Electronic Delivery by means of email) under licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency Limited, the document must be printed out immediately; or forwarded to the individual requesting the copy for their immediate printing; and all electronic versions must be deleted immediately following successful transmission and printing - as indicated in the following statement from the CLA:"the ... item is a copyright work which has been supplied and transmitted by electronic means. The following are NOT permitted, unless you have the permission of the copyright owner or of The Copyright Licensing Agency Ltd and save as may be permitted by statute: a) printing more than a single paper copy, which itself may not be further copied; b) retransmitting the article to anybody else, other than to enable a single paper copy to be printed out by or for the individual who originally requested the item; c) electronically storing any copy of the article" (CLA Document Delivery License).
  5. If the Institute is supplying copied material for the purposes of parliamentary or judicial proceedings or for research for non-commercial purposes or private study (as permitted by statute), the organization undertakes to supply in respect of each item requested a parliamentary or judicial proceedings declaration or non-commercial research copyright declaration as appropriate. The declaration must be signed by the person requiring the copy. Faxed or emailed declarations are acceptable.
  6. The Institute offers a Standard service (ordered before 12 noon dispatched later same day) and also offers an Express service (dispatched in under 60 minutes) in response to requests for photocopies of items available in the Library.
  7. In the absence of any declared CLA Law License or CLA Multinational Law License, IALS will assume that the organisation does not have an appropriate license and will offer fax, post, courier or collect at IALS.
  8. Subscribers will receive a monthly invoice itemising all transactions.
  9. The subscription rates and transaction charges for the Document Supply Service may be varied at one month's notice.
  10. The Institute will supply the CLA with quarterly data including: the details of each document supplied, the company name and location (UK or overseas) of the customer delivered to, and their CLA account code (if supplied).
