The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library awarded Best Legal Information Service at the LexisNexis Halsbury's Awards 2009
The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library is honoured to have been awarded the prestigious Halsbury's Award for the Best Legal information Service (Non-Commercial Sector) 2009 by the LexisNexis Halsbury's Awards in association with the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians.

The winners of the LexisNexis Halsbury's Awards 2009 in association with the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) were announced at the (BIALL) Annual Conference held in Manchester.
The LexisNexis Halsbury's Awards recognise the Best Legal Information Services in the UK and Ireland and were presented by Jackie Fishleigh, President of BIALL, and Simon Hetherington, Publisher of Halsbury's Laws of England at LexisNexis.
These awards are particularly unique as they are the only legal information service awards that recognise the value and importance of dedicated team work within this sector.

Jules Winterton, Associate Director and Librarian at IALS who was presented with the award for Best Legal Information Service (Non-Commercial Sector) said: "IALS Library is honoured to have received such a prestigious award which is a tribute to the special expertise and hard work of the library staff."
The award was received on behalf of IALS by Jules Winterton, Laura Griffiths and Hester Swift on the evening of Thursday 18th June, at the conference in Manchester.

David Wills, chair of the adjudication panel at the LexisNexis Halsbury's Awards 2009 said:
"The Halsbury's Awards, now in their third year, continue to recognise excellence, quality of service and teamworking in our legal information and law library industry. The Services who have won these prestigious awards in 2009 have demonstrated the highest levels of dedication within our profession and, as in previous years, it is worth reflecting that it is only fitting that the illustrious Halsbury's name, and brand, is attached to these prizes."
The Halsbury's Awards were established in 2007 by the BIALL Awards & Bursaries Committee and LexisNexis. They were conceived in order to recognise, celebrate and reward the dedicated performance and outstanding service given by legal information services, law libraries and those teams managing legal collections and resources.
Nominations were received from within the law library and legal information profession as well as from those in the law sector itself. The adjudication panel comprised of representatives from BIALL and LexisNexis.
The winners, in each category, were:
Best Legal Information Service (Non-Commercial Sector): The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library, London .
Best Legal Information Service (Commercial Sector): Clarke Willmott LLP Information Services, Birmingham .
Best London Legal Information Service (Commercial Sector) London : CMS Cameron McKenna LLP Library and Knowledge Centre.
The Award Committee, who adjudicates on the nominations, is composed of senior BIALL officers, the Chair of ABC and representatives from LexisNexis.

The Lexis Nexis Halsbury's Awards :
The Halsbury's Awards were established in 2007 by the BIALL Awards & Bursaries Committee and LexisNexis. They replaced the previously named BIALL Awards for Excellence that were presented in 2005 and 2006 .
Best Legal Information Service (Non-Commercial Sector): this is a British and Irish nationwide award for those non-fee charging operations including the academic sector, government libraries and 'special' legal libraries/information services.
Best Legal Information Service (Commercial Sector) this award is aimed at the commercial sector and includes Wales , Scotland and Ireland and all areas of England beyond London (ie. outside of the M25)
Best Legal Information Service (Commercial Sector) - London Only: this award is aimed at the London based Law Firm sector and other legal information services that operate commercial, fee charging, services within the capital. The reference to London can be identified as within the M25
