Institute Publications: The Early Years

At the end of the Institute's second session in 1948-1949, the first library publication appeared, a Survey of Legal Periodicals Held in British Libraries.

This gives details of holdings of about four hundred and fifty legal periodicals in fifty-four London and British libraries. The Institute was grateful for the willing co-operation of the librarians concerned, without which this work would not have been possible. The Committee of Mangement noted with pleasure the favourable reception accorded to this first publication by IALS.

The Institute planned to update the information by issuing supplements from time to time. In the following session the holdings of legal periodicals in five further libraries were recorded at the Institute and incorporated in a further edition planned for 1951.
