Modern Artworks Installed at IALS

As part of the IALS Transformation Project, IALS has been keen to loan modern artworks from the University of London Art Collection to adorn the walls of the refurbished building and to provide a source of inspiration and creativity for those who visit, study and work at IALS. Now that the major phase of the refurbishment project is completed, 10 large modern artworks have just been installed. The theme of most of the art chosen is works created in the 1970’s. This was thought to be appropriate as the listed Grade II* IALS building was designed in the Brutalist style by the renowned British architect Sir Denys Lasdun and opened in 1976 (https://ials.sas.ac.uk/about/ials-information/history/charles-clore-house).

Artists such as Sean Scully, Claude Rogers, Jack Simcock, John Edwards and Andrew Yates  are among the modern artists represented.
