The site includes legal news stories and features, with sections focusing on legal practice management and regulation. Details of future events, along with videos from past events, are available on the site and reports - covering subjects such as the law firm of the future and the impact of technology - can be freely downloaded. A services directory providing contact details of companies can be browsed by sector. 

Researching Third-Party Funding in Investor-State Dispute Settlements

This guide looks at how third-party funding works in the investment arbitration setting. It is written by Sherry Xin Chen who is legal information librarian and lecturer in law at Boston College Law School and Kirrin Hough a U.S. attorney. The guide was published in 2019 on the Globalex website and made freely available by the Hauser Global Law School Program at the New York University School of Law. The guide gives an introduction to third-party funding in investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) and links to resources providing research and data on the industry.

2018 Reform of EU Data Protection Rules

This page on the European Commission website provides information on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force in May 2018. The GDPR will establish one set of data protection rules for all companies operating in the EU and gives people more control over their personal data. There is information aimed at businesses and organisations on what they must do to comply with the new rules and a section aimed at the general public on how their personal data is protected.

Takeover Panel

The Takeover Panel (or Panel on Takeovers and Mergers) regulates takeovers and mergers in the UK, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Its website includes information on the regulatory role of the Panel, the text of City Code on Takeovers and Mergers and related instruments, governing rules, practice statements, forms and checklists. It also has details of current and closed consultations.

Companies Court

Website of the Companies Court which is a specialist court within the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice and covers cases relating to the insolvency of companies in England and Wales. The Court deals with petitions to wind up a company, applications to unfreeze bank accounts or challenges to winding up petitions and applications to restore a company to the register. There is guidance on liquidating a company, restoring a dissolved company, compulsory liquidation and cancelling a winding up order. Forms, contact details and daily cause lists are also given.

Commercial Court

Website of the Commercial Court a specialist court within the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court of Justice. This Court deals with complex national and international business disputes covering issues such as contracts, insurance, sale of commodities, import, export and carriage of goods, arbitration awards and construction of ships. There is guidance on taking a case to the Commercial Court, Civil Procedure Rules and a daily cause list.

Brexit Essentials: Navigating Unchartered Seas: A Practical Guide for Businesses

Online guide to the implications of the vote by Britain to leave the European Union. The briefing has been written by staff at law firm Slaughter and May and is aimed at their business clients. The guide looks at risk assessment and monitoring covering issues such as investment, cash flow, regulatory obligations and contracts. The guide also looks at the impact of brexit across a number of practice areas including dispute resolution, tax, pensions, intellectual property, environment and data protection.

Cousins Business Law

Website of Cousins Business Law, a firm of commercial solicitors specialising in SMEs and family run businesses. The site offers a selection of free articles covering subjects relevant to small business such as outsourcing, contracts, IT and ecommerce. There is also a monthly ezine which can be freely downloaded from the site and a business law blog. Posts can be viewed by date or subject eg. partnership agreements, business disputes, licensing and laws and regulations.

Investment Instruments Online: IIA Compendium

Free online version of the UN publication, ‘International Investment Instruments: A Compendium’, on the UNCTAD website. Volumes 1 to 10 are provided; subsequent volumes are not included. The Compendium is a collection of conventions, rules, guidelines and other documents concerning foreign direct investment (FDI) and transnational corporations (TNCs). Users can search by keyword or country, or browse by category (multilateral, bilateral, regional, non-governmental or prototype) and year. The interface is in English and the documents are in English, French and/or Spanish.

The website provides details of the tax and legal regimes of offshore and onshore jurisdictions. The ‘Global Tax Coverage’ section contains a range of information about these regimes, from an introduction to government to types of company, offshore business sectors and double tax treaties. The vast majority of countries also have a Services Directory and a selection of articles, which are available in a combination of PDF and HTML format.
