The Art of the Fair Deal(ing)
This event follows on from the inaugural Fair Dealing Week UK launch at IALS in 2022.
Jane Secker and Chris Morrison from Copyright Literacy will once again present an interesting and stimulating discussion on the topic of Fair Dealing.
This year the guest speaker will be Amanda Wakaruk from Alberta University who will be sharing her insight as Copyright and Scholarly Communications Librarian.
Fair dealing is an important statutory exception to copyright infringement in multiple Commonwealth countries. For example, Canada’s highest court refers to fair dealing as a ‘users’ right’ and copyright as providing a balance between the rights of users and of copyright owners. But are the people who might enjoy this users’ right leaning on it? This session will explore the ‘art’ of fair dealing from a users’ perspective, referencing 2019 data collected with the Copyright Anxiety Scale.
