In the Library
IALS is mainly a reference library with shorter loan periods to ensure that books are available on site as much as possible. This is supported each year by our Reader Survey results. IALS adopted a more flexible approach with longer loan periods and an increased number of books on loan during the Covid-19 lockdown period. However, from the week starting Sept 27th, we will return to previous arrangements. Please see Borrowing, renewing and returning for further information.
An extensive range of law databases is available, providing online access to cases, legislation, journal articles, e-books and other material:-
Assistance and advice
Library services are supported through the Enquiries Desk on the 2nd floor. For in-depth reference advice and for help with using MS Word, please make an appointment with a librarian for one-to-one assistance. A programme of Information skills training sessions is offered by the Library during the year. The librarians at IALS have written a number of guides as an aid to legal research, to help you use the library and to find the resources you need.
