Ebook Central offers access to selected law ebooks which the Library has purchased via ProQuest from a variety of publishers.
Remote access is available to IALS and SAS staff, fellows and students; University of London law staff and postgraduate students; and IALS Library academic members.
Certain features are only available once a personal account has been created. To create an account, you must first open Ebook Central using the link in the library catalogue and enter your surname and IALS Library barcode number when prompted. From the Ebook Central homepage, click on ‘Sign In’, then ‘Create Account’. Once you have created an account you can download, highlight, annotate, set default citation style and save books to your personal bookshelf.
To see the list of books available via IALS Library, ensure the option ‘Owned and subscribed to by my library’ is ticked underneath ‘Book status’ (this should be ticked by default when you open Ebook Central).
A basic search is available from the home screen. There is also an option for advanced search which gives the added possibility of specifying a publication date range and format (PDF or EPUB). To search by editor, go to advanced search and use the author field.
From the homepage, a selection of filters are available. These allow you to filter the books subscribed to by IALS Library by year published, subject, language and author.
Some books are available to download in full for a limited number of days. If downloading of the full book is available there will be an indicator as to how many days is will be available for before expiring (download periods range from 1-21 days). It is also possible to download individual chapters/sections to keep in perpetuity. The number of pages that are able to be downloaded or copied varies from book to book but will be specified from the book details page.
