Halsbury's Laws of England is part of the Lexis Library subscription service. It is a comprehensive encyclopedia of the law of England and Wales.
Halsbury's on Lexis Library is available onsite to all academic members of IALS Library. Remote access is available to IALS staff and IALS students; readers from other colleges and institutes may have remote access via their own college or institute library.
Halsbury's Laws is arranged alphabetically by area of law, from Administrative Law to Wills. The online version is updated once a month. Links to relevant cases and legislation are provided.
Searching and browsing
Halsbury's Laws is listed on the right-hand side of the Lexis Library home page, with links to searching and browsing facilities.
Click on "Search" to bring up a search screen. You can search by key words and phrases using the "Search terms" box. The "Headings" box allows you to search all headings, down to paragraph level. For further search options, click on "Show options to search specific document sections". To search a particular title (e.g. Wills) instead of the whole work, start by browsing - see below.
Click on "Browse" to display a list of all the titles that comprise Halsbury's Laws; you can then drill down through the sections and paragraphs. Alternatively, you can select a particular title, then search that title only using the Quick Search box towards the top of the browse screen.
The Search and Browse screens each have a "Help" link towards the top right-hand corner. The Search screen also has a "Search tips" link.

Printing, emailing and downloading
Extracts from Halsbury's Laws may be printed, emailed or downloaded using the printer, envelope or disk icons which appear on the search results and full-text screens.
