The Max Planck Encyclopedia of Comparative Constitutional Law (MPECCoL) was launched by Oxford University Press in April 2017.
The Encyclopedia is available onsite and offsite to all academic members of IALS Library.
MPECCoL consists of comparative articles on constitutional law topics; each article has a bibliography. At the time of writing (December 2018), 165 articles had been published and about 400 more were planned.
Select ‘Browse all’ to display the articles in order of title, A to Z. Alternatively, select ‘Subject’ or ‘Author’. Filters on the left-hand side of the page can then be used to narrow down the selection of articles by subject, date range, author and/or jurisdiction.
Quick and Advanced search facilities are available towards the top of the screen.
Phrases should be entered in double quotation marks, for example, “bill of rights”
An asterisk can be used to find variations of a word, for example, "discriminat*
Search results can be filtered by subject, date range, author and/or jurisdiction. You can also refine your intial search by entering addition search terms in ‘the Search within’ box.
Printing, downloading and emailing
To print an article from MPECCoL, click on the printer icon at the top of the page (on the right). Alternatively, click on the PDF icon, also at the top, then use Acrobat’s print function.
To download, click on the computer disk icon at the top of the page. To download an article as a PDF file, use the PDF icon.
To email an article, click on the envelope icon, or download the article as a PDF file, then email it.
