Ford Legal Workshop: 8th Workshop 1973

Law and the Social Sciences

The 8th Legal Workshop organised by the Institute, and financed with the help of the Ford Foundation, was held from Monday 9th July to Friday 13th June 1973 at Connaught Hall, one of the inter-collegiate Halls of Residence of the University of London. The subject was: Law and the Social Sciences and the Workshop was organised by Professor O.R. McGregor and Mr D.R. Harris, the Director and Associate Director respectively of the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at Wolfson College, Oxford.

The 48 full-time participants were drawn from law faculties of universities throughout the United Kingdom and several visitors attended separate sessions during the week. The Institute was also delighted to welcome Professor Philip Selznick of the Center for the Study of Law and Society, University of California, Berkeley, who delivered the opening address on "law in its Social Context" and took part in many of the discussions.

A reception for participants was held at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies on the first evening of the Workshop and a dinner was held at Bedford College on the last evening.
